Lower East Side Tenement Museum Visitor's Center |
A major renovation of 103 Orchard Street transformed this early 20th Century structure into a new Visitor Center for the institution, accommodating visitor services, retail, education and related facilities. The challenge of this job was the state of the building: it had been divided up in numerous ways over the years, with sections compromised by the changes, and some areas still occupied by tenants. The design solution had to make sense in stages – as areas of the building became exposed. In addition to managing the complex construction, Levien helped orchestrate the various sources of public and private funding for this important project.
