Mercy College |
The project involved the innovative adaptive reuse of the former Bronx Psychiatric Center as a new Bronx campus for this rapidly-growing commuter college. The program involved 54 classrooms, a 162-seat auditorium, a library, a 350-seat cafeteria, a technology wing, a learning center, a computer lab, and administrative offices and a plaza totaling 135,000 SF. The facility can accommodate 4,500 students. A key component of Levien & Co.’s responsibilities was to negotiate modifications to the base building systems in the lease and monitor the landlord work for integration of base building and school systems. The project had a very tight budget and was designed in six months and constructed in seven months.
