The Abraham Joshua Heschel School |
Levien & Company was retained to oversee the $100-million expansion and relocation project for the Abraham Joshua Heschel School on Manhattan's West Side. The new 150,000 SF, nine-story building houses students from nursery school through eighth grade. The project allowed the school to realize its vision for a single campus identity and accommodate more than 1,000 students, a significant increase over its previous limit. Construction began in late fall 2010 but had to be done for school opening by Labor Day 2012 – without the luxury of a back-up plan. Levien worked closely with the owner, general contractor, trades, design team, City agencies, and utilities to make this accelerated effort succeed. The project has been awarded a LEED Gold rating.
